Group Of Millionaires Pushes For Higher Taxes On The Wealthy
Connecticut has seen the two largest tax increases in the state’s history enacted in just the last six years, but 12 millionaires are stepping forward to say they are still willing to pay more.
The move comes at a time when legislators are looking to close a projected deficit of nearly $3.5 billion over two years and are struggling to come up with solutions. Some legislators have been reluctant to raises taxes, especially on income.
But in an open letter to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, the millionaires say the legislature should increase the tax on the top earners in the state — specifically those earning more than $250,000 per year.
“We can afford to pay more and should,’’ the group said. “We are willing to be part of the solution.’’
